A selection of our recent artificial grass & turf work across Derby and Derbyshire.

The quality of an artificial grass installation is almost entirely down to what happens before the turf goes down. A poorly prepared sub-base leads to sinking, pooling water, and an uneven surface within a couple of years. That's the main reason some artificial lawns look bad relatively quickly. We excavate to the right depth (typically 75-100mm depending on ground conditions), compact a Type 1 MOT sub-base, lay a weed membrane, and make sure drainage falls away from the property. The turf is secured with fixing pins and jointing tape, edges finished cleanly against any surrounding paving or borders.
For natural turf, preparation is equally important. Soil condition, topsoil depth, and ground levelling all affect how well turf establishes and whether it stays looking good through a dry summer. We assess conditions before laying anything and deal with drainage issues first.
We work across Derby, Mickleover, Littleover, Spondon, Chaddesden, and throughout Derbyshire. If you've had quotes that seem cheap and you're not sure why, ask us what's included. We're happy to explain what a proper installation involves and why it matters.

Quality artificial grass typically lasts 15–20 years with minimal care. The products we install are UV-stabilised and designed for the UK climate — they won't fade or flatten over time.
Yes. We only use pet and child-safe materials that are free from harmful substances. The surface is soft, non-toxic, and drains quickly so it stays clean and hygienic.
We fully excavate the area, compact a MOT Type 1 sub-base, lay a weed membrane, then secure the artificial turf with jointing tape and fixing pins. Edges are finished cleanly against any surrounding borders or paving.
Very little. An occasional brush to keep the pile upright and a rinse with a hose is all that's needed. No mowing, watering, seeding, or fertilising — ever.
Yes. We can install artificial grass on sloped and uneven ground, adjusting the sub-base to ensure good drainage and a level, natural-looking finish.
For a fully prepared installation, budget somewhere around £60 to £100 per m², depending on the grass quality and how much groundwork the area needs. The grass itself is the smaller part of the cost; most of it is the excavation and sub-base that stop it sinking or rippling later.
It warms up in direct sun like any surface, but it won't get dangerously hot in the UK climate and cools quickly in shade or with a splash from the hose. The better grasses we fit reflect more heat than the cheap budget rolls.
It drains straight through. The backing is perforated and sits on a permeable sub-base, so rain soaks away rather than pooling. Fitted properly it often drains faster than a tired natural lawn that has gone compacted and boggy.
We won't lay it straight onto an old lawn, because the ground underneath sinks and goes lumpy within a season. It needs the turf stripped and a proper sub-base built. Over sound decking or concrete we can fit it with the right underlay, as long as drainage is handled.
It's one of the most common reasons people ring us. It doesn't turn to mud, dogs can't dig it up, and waste hoses off easily. We use pet-friendly infill and can fit a tougher grass on the lines where dogs run the same route every day.
